Greenwich Village, often referred to by locals as simply “the Village”, is a neighborhood on the west side of Lower Manhattan, New York City. Greenwich Village has been known as an artists’ haven, the Bohemian capital, the cradle of the modern LGBT movement, and the East Coast birthplace of both the Beat and ’60s counterculture movements. Groenwijck, one of the Dutch names for the village (meaning “Green District”), was Anglicized to Greenwich. Two of New York’s private colleges, New York University (NYU) and the New School, are located in Greenwich Village.

When Dylan Thomas went back to his Room at the CHELSEA HOTEL, Thomas
stated that he just came back from The WHITE HORSE TAVERN, he said, “I just had
18 WHISKIES, I think it’s the record.” After Thomas’s death, the bartender
at The White Horse said it was 9 Whiskies. Who knows for sure.

Thomas first travelled to the United States in the 1950s. His readings there brought him a degree of fame, while his erratic behaviour and drinking worsened. His time in America cemented his legend, however, and he went on to record to vinyl such works as A Child’s Christmas in Wales. During his fourth trip to New York in 1953, Thomas became gravely ill and fell into a coma, from which he never recovered. He died on 9 November 1953. His body was returned to Wales, where he was interred at the village churchyard in Laugharne on 25 November 1953.

CAFFE REGGIO is Filled with Beautiful Art Works that include paintings from the School of Caravaggio , a Renaissance Bench from a MEDICI PALACE and a CEILING FAN From The Movie CASABLANCA.
Caffe Reggio is a New York City Coffee House first opened in 1927 at 119 Macdougal Street in the heart of Manhattan’s Greenwich Village.
Italian Cappuccino was introduced in America by the founder of Caffe Reggio, Domenico Parisi, in the early 1920s. Inside the cafe, against the back wall, there is still the original Espresso Machine , made in 1902, that Domenico Parisi bought with his savings when he opened the cafe in 1927.
The Caffe Reggio has been featured in many movies, including The GODFATHER Par II, NEXT STOP GREENWICH VILLAGE , The Kremlin Letter, Shaft, SERPICO , The Next Man, In Good Company, Inside Llewyn Davis and others. Many celebrities have been spotted or photographed in this location. In 1959, presidential hopeful JOHN F. KENNEDY made a speech outside the coffee shop. In 2010, the cafe was honored with a Village Award by the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation for its status as a beloved and essential part of the neighborhood.
Caffe Reggio has a bench from a palazzo of the Florentine Medici family of Renaissance fame. The bench is not roped-off and guests can sit on it and admire a painting from an artist of the school of Caravaggio.
